Project Full Description

Founded in 1987, the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank’s mission is to end hunger in Marin and San Francisco counties. The Food Bank had outgrown its warehouse facilities and, coupled with the Covid-19 pandemic, needed to significantly increase its warehouse and cold storage space.

Project goals included increasing annual food distribution capacity from 48 million pounds to 75 million pounds; increasing food distribution efficiency with 2 new loading docks; creating a better welcome center and experience for visitors and volunteers; and providing expanded office and conference rooms for increased staff.

To accomplish its goals, the Food Bank added 32,000 square feet of

warehouse space, a 5,200 square foot cooler, and doubled its freezer capacity, all allowing the facility to provide more fresh produce and meats to clients.

Management of the project by ECB included securing project entitlements, running a competitive selection process to select a design-build contractor, working with the selected team – Truebeck Construction and EHDD – to finalize the design within the project budget, and managing a separate contract to install new dry storage shelving within the existing warehouse.
