The San Domenico School hired ECB to lead a stalled project involving the removal of its existing outdated pool and pool house and creation of a new state of the art Aquatics Center and Community Center. ECB managed the entire development from initial concept design and planning through entitlements, design, permitting and construction.
Phase I of the project, the San Domenico Aquatics Center, involved the demolition of the old, outdated swimming pool and adjacent wood shop/pool house, construction of a much larger Olympic size pool suitable for both swim meets and water polo matches, improvements to the adjacent dorm including ground floor locker, office and training facilities, and enhanced fire and life safety improvements on the upper floors.
The first phase of the project was constructed during the pandemic.
The second phase of the project is currently in the permitting and bidding phase, with construction expected to start in early 2023.
The Sister Gervais Community Center, honoring one of the original teachers and administrators of the school, will consist of a multipurpose building adjacent to the pool that will be used for fitness, after school programming, test administration, and performing arts rehearsal space throughout the year. Storage, new bathrooms (accessible from the exterior to serve the building, the pool and nearby teaching garden) and a new prep kitchen are all included in the program.
