Project Full Description

Congregation Emanu-El, the largest synagogue in the Bay Area, hired ECB as the Owner's Representative to coordinate all aspects of developing and implementing the renovation of Temple Emanu-El from pre-entitlements through construction.

Built in 1925, this historic temple has been renovated and revitalized to provide a more modern, secure and welcoming community space. Modernization includes seismic upgrades allowing the historic Lake Street entrance to reopen after closing for several decades due to security, safety and accessibility. Other key elements include new classrooms, social spaces, clergy offices and a children’s play area on the new roof deck that offers grand views of San Francisco. All new facilities have been reimagined to provide better accessibility, safety and community programming.

The project will be completed in 2025, the building’s 100th year.
