Project Description
ECB and our partners Emerald Fund were selected by the California College of the Arts (CCA) through a competitive process to lead the redevelopment of CCA’s historic 4-acre Oakland campus. After over 100 years of operation in Oakland, CCA is unifying their operations at their San Francisco campus where they have room for their continued growth.
The Oakland campus is an extraordinary opportunity site for transit-oriented development with adjacent bus transit and a 10-minute walk to Rockridge BART. However, development is constrained by two National Landmark buildings and related historic site features and view corridor as well as 10 more recent buildings that contribute to the site’s historic significance.
The proposed development, which is in the entitlements process, preserves the National Landmark buildings, historic landscape and site features, restores the landscaped open space for community access, retains many of the mature redwoods and specimen trees and provides 448 residential units, 10% of which are dedicated for affordable housing.
ECB and Emerald Fund have worked closely with the local neighborhood and community organizations as well as with Oakland Planning staff, Planning Commissioners, the Landmarks Preservation Advisory Board, Oakland Heritage Alliance, the local City Council member and the Mayor’s office on what is recognized as an extremely important and sensitive property for development in the Rockridge /Upper Broadway neighborhoods.
