Project Description

ECB is the financing consultant and construction project manager for the renovation of a dilapidated furniture warehouse into the new CARE Center – a vibrant community center that will inspire innovation and placed-based physical problem-solving solutions in East Oakland.

CARE Center aims to impact 10,000 families each year through four primary service areas: culinary, arts, recreation, and education.

Services at CARE Center will provide a variety of educational, therapeutic, and employment opportunities serving youths through seniors, many of who are survivors of crime, war, and/or displacement, and/or live with disabilities.

Additionally, CARE Center will provide co-working space and serve as a business incubator for nonprofits and small businesses, as well as an art gallery, and event space for the broader community.

The project was financed through a combination of state and federal grants, generous institutional and individual donors, and New Markets Tax Credit equity, secured by ECB.

Construction began in the fall of 2018 and is scheduled to finish in late 2019.
